Quest for Valadrin - 0.0.4 update
Today's update comes with several new features, as well as some fixes and balance changes.
Balance
I've spent a good amount of time balancing monsters for the first few words. It's not fun dying on the first encounter, so I really want to make sure players aren't at an unfair disadvantage. That said, I really like the overall difficulty, so the adjustments have been minor.
Abilities
The "Heal" ability has been removed from the fighter. I didn't like the implementation, and it just felt messy. To replace it, the Fighter has two new abilities. One immediately generates fury when entering combat, and the other allows the fighter to hold two-handed weapons in one hand. Dual wielding great swords is now possible!
On top of that, I also added a range of generic abilities that improve different character stats. Now, when you reach a level that would unlock a new ability, you will be given a choice of 4 random abilities for your class. I think this really adds value to the game, as it ensures each play is slightly different.
Also, the Fighter now starts with the 'Cleave' ability already unlocked, and the Wizard's 'Shock' damage will increase at certain levels to help balance what is now their base attack.
Merchants
Merchants can now restock some of their merchandise when the player rests in town. Any merchant with 2 or fewer items available for sale will have a chance of getting more stock.
I've also added a travelling merchant. This merchant moves around when the player rests, so be sure to keep an eye out for them! They also stock a very special new item; the strange elixir.
Strange Elixir
This item can be purchased once on each world from the travelling merchant. Drinking the elixir will permanently improve one of the players stats (crit chance, crit damage, health, defense, attack damage). The elixir's aren't cheap though, so you'll need to save up plenty of gold if you want to afford one.
Other
I've also fixed a few small bugs, most of which will likely go unnoticed.
